Today in history - November 13, 1998

World Kindness Day is an international observance on 13 November. It was introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement. The World Kindness Movement (WKM) is the peak global body, an organization with no religious or political affiliation. The idea of a World Kindness Movement was conceived at a Tokyo conference in 1996 when founders of the Small Kindness Movement in Japan brought together like-minded individuals from around the world who had started kindness movements in their own countries.

It is observed in many countries, including Canada, Japan, Australia, Nigeria and United Arab Emirates. In 2009, Singapore observed the day for the first time. Italy and India also observed the day. In the UK it is fronted by David Jamilly co-founded Kindness Day UK. It is a day that encourages individuals to overlook boundaries, race and religion.
