Védrines break the 100 m.p.h. barrier-10.09.1912
Today in history - September 10, 1912

Jules Védrines was born in Saint-Denis, a suburb of Paris. In 1910 he gained a pilot's license. Jules Charles Toussaint Védrines was the first pilot in the world who broke the 100 m.p.h barrier and won the Gordon Bennett Trophy race in 1912. This is a notable day in the history of France, because that was a 3rd in the Circuit of Europe race.

Jules Védrines was flying the Deperdussin Recing Monoplane with 160 km/h and was the first who flew more than 100 m.p.h. Jules Védrines was also active politically and in 1912 he stood unsuccessfully as a Socialist candidate for the Chamber of Deputies for the constituency of Limoux.
